The architectural lines of its facade are of eclectic style, characteristic of the beginning of century in region. The building has 3 480 square meters, spread over three floors interconnected by an elevator, from which you can have a panoramic view of the entire internal environment. The ground floor has a theatre and an art gallery. In the second and third floors are ten exhibition halls, with infrastructure and lighting for larger events.

Built to house the school of the Lloyd Brazilian shipping company, the building was inaugurated in 1922. The projected school, however, was never installed, and the property was used for more than five decades for the operation of administrative units and of the Brazilian Post and Telegraph Company.

In the 1980s the property was decommissioned for renovation and reopened on June 2, 1992, partially restored, to receive the "Ecological Exhibition 92", an integral part of the calendar of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development.
